Low voltage limiter for sheath voltage limiter (SVL) of MV power cables In this application, KZ.ISG100-RW is a sheath voltage limiter designed for overvoltage protection and current discharge for MV power cables.
Solidly Bonded System (Grounding at both ends)
Cable sheaths are bonded and earthed at each end of the route, and possibly also at one or more intermediate joints for long route lengths. Under normal (50/60Hz) loading conditions, a circulating current is induced in the sheath-earth loop generating a power loss, this will also make reducing the current capacity of cable, gradually heating up the sheath and damage cable.

Single Point Bonded Systems (Grounding at 1 end)
The cable sheaths in this case are bonded and earthed at oneposition only, usually at one end of the cable route. Sheath circulating currents are thus eliminated by leaving one end of the system unearthed or 'floating'. Under conditions of current loading, the unearthed end of the cable sheath rises in voltage via induction and it is necessary use SVL to control this voltage level under normal system operating conditions, during short circuits, and during transient overvoltages (switching and lightning). If overvoltage, KZ.ISG100-RW generates a durable conductive path between the cable sheath and ground to discharge the inductive current, this SVL acting will also protect the cable and loads from surge and transient waves in fault conditions.
